Dancing at the edge of volkano in hard times like ours? Özge Övül’s recent works at @volkssolidaritaetberlin Nachbarschaftszentrum Brunnentreff are balanced on edge. How much of public and political gets into one‘s private? Snapshots of feasts and celebrations like these are more likely a sign of resilience than insensitivity to social evils. Moreover showing celebration rituals of local communities living in our neighbourhoods reveal far more than we could imagine about how societies function and what really matters for local folks. Nachbarschaftszentrum Brunnentreff on the edge of the hyped Berlin-Mitte and less spectacular Berlin-Wedding focuses therefore in this exhibition, for once, on local neighbourhoods and communities, their festivities and daily lives: In Case of Jealousy Say „Masallah“ (Arab. for divine grace) as the exhibition title has it.
