Exhibition Guy Mandat. Recent Work is part of the Project “Deine Kunst” realised with the kind support of the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin. Preußischer Kulturbesitz.
Guy Mandat’s recent work mainly ink on paper or cardboard resembles a form of silent writing, where each stroke and trace of pigment feels like a delicate mark of thought. The contrast between ink and the untouched white background creates a rhythm of presence, much like poetry unfolding in visual form. Occasional dim white-on-white accents, alongside red or dark blue and greenish dots, introduce quiet yet intentional disruptions, guiding the viewer’s gaze with a sense of balance and restraint. Subtly meditative, these compositions evoke both calligraphic traditions and modern minimalism, where meaning is found as much in the spaces between as in the marks themselves.
Guy Mandat is a US American artist who most of his life created his works in the silence of his home ignored by the local private galleries and state art institutions. He has been discovered and contacted by the curator who found his work exceptionally evocative, relevant and engaging and invited him to show his recent work in Berlin. This is Guy Mandat’s 2nd exhibition in Europe so far.
